OPEN SECTION: CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
Entrants must be over 18 years of age.
Both two-dimensional works and artists’ books are accepted.
Collaborative works are not accepted.
PRIZES
The judging panel will award prizes in the following categories:
Grand Prize (Acquisitive): the winner may choose either a return air fare to Amsterdam
plus 10 days’ accommodation, valued at $10,000 including $1000 spending money,
organised tours and activities OR a monetary prize of $8000.
This prize is acquisitive and the winning artwork will become the property of the Silk
Cut Foundation without further payment to the artist.
Purchase Prizes: An amount limited to $5000 has been allocated for the purchase of
other works recommended by the judges at the sale price stated on the entry form.
It is recommended that artists nominate a fair market price. Acquired works will become
part of the Silk Cut Foundation Collection which is part of an ongoing gift to the National
Gallery of Australia. These acquisitions are at the discretion of the Silk Cut Foundation
which reserves the right not to purchase to the full $5000 budget.

JUDGING:
PRE-SELECTION
Please see Conditions of Entry (Both Sections). Entries pre-selected by the judges as
finalists in the 2011 Silk Cut Award exhibition must be suitably framed or otherwise
prepared for exhibition. Your name, contact details and the title of the work must be
clearly visible on the back of the work.
Conditions of EntryClear instructions must accompany entries that require assembly. All framed entries
must be ready for hanging with two D-rings on the back. At the discretion of the Gallery,
large two-dimensional works not suitable for framing may be attached to walls using
pins. If specific pins are required they should be supplied by the artist.
SALE OF WORKS
All entries exhibited as finalists in the Open Section must be available for acquisition by
the Silk Cut Foundation Collection. Any sales enquiries from the public will be forwarded
to the artist.
BOTH SECTIONS
All entries must be linocut prints and must be original works submitted by the artist/s
whose name appears on the entry form and have been completed since June 2010.
Works by individuals should not exceed 250cm on the vertical axis and 250cm on the
horizontal. School collaborative group projects may exceed these dimensions.
The entered work must be produced from Silk Cut Linoleum. The lino block(s) should
be retained by the artist and forwarded promptly to the Gallery on written request.
Each artist (or group) is allowed only one entry. Entries are invited from Australian
and international artists in the Open Section and the Student Section.
Each artist must send a single, high-resolution digital image (300dpi) of the entered
work, by either: CD-ROM, posted to Glen Eira City Council Gallery, PO Box 42, Caulfield
South, VIC 3162

Email: silkcutlino@gleneira.vic.gov.au Pre-selection will be based on the digital image
that you send and you will benefit from supplying the best possible high resolution digital
image of your entry. Catalogue reproductions are also based on this image.
Digital images should be saved as jpegs less than two megabytes, at 300 dpi resolution
and able to be opened on PC format. Files must be a minimum 10cm x 10cm at 300 dpi.
A maximum of 2 details can also be included.
There are no other methods of entry.
Emails and CDs must include the entrant’s name, address and contact details including
phone, fax and email address, title and dimensions of the work.
Conditions of EntryAll entrants should post their completed entry form (with CD, if applicable) and a nonrefundable entry fee of A$22.00 (Open Section only) to Glen Eira City Council Gallery.
An entry fee is not required for Student Section.
Cheques or money orders should be made payable to the Silk Cut Foundation Inc and
NOT the Glen Eira City Council Gallery.

JUDGING
The judges will select up to fifty finalists in the Open Section and up to fifty finalists
in the Student Section. These works will comprise the 2011 Silk Cut Award Exhibition.
All entrants preselected will be notified by 14 July 2011.
The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

All invited entries must be delivered to Glen Eira City Council Gallery (Caulfield Town
Hall), Corner Glen Eira & Hawthorn Roads, Caulfield VIC 3162

Late entries will not be accepted. Arrangements and expenses related to the delivery
and collection of entries are the responsibility of the artist (Open Section) or school
(Student Section). Entries will not be accepted unless free of all delivery charges.
Return freight must be prepaid. Consignment notes, pre-paid stickers, postage etc
must be enclosed with the artwork on delivery.
Conditions of EntryPRESENTATIONS & EXHIBITION
The 2011 Silk Cut Award exhibition of prize winners and finalists in both the Open and
Student Sections will be held at the Glen Eira City Council Gallery from Saturday 3
September until Sunday 18 September, 2011.
The winners of the Silk Cut Grand Prize in the Open Section, Purchase Prizes in the
Open Section, Silk Cut Student Prizes and Commended works will be announced at the
official opening of the exhibition on Friday 2 September 2011 at the Glen Eira City Council
Gallery. They will also be listed on the Silk Cut website www.silkcutlino.com on Monday
5 September. All entrants and family & friends are invited to the opening.
Entrants selected for exhibition in the Open Section and the Student Section of the
Silk Cut Award will allow their works to be reproduced in the 2011 Silk Cut Exhibition
catalogue and used for promotion directly connected with this and future Silk Cut
Award exhibitions and/or associated products and publications.
CATALOGUE
The 2011 Silk Cut Award illustrated catalogue will be available for purchase from the
gallery following the announcement of winners on the opening night. Complimentary
copies will be forwarded by mail to all finalists.
INDEMNITY AND INSURANCE
Insurance is the full responsibility of the artist at all times.
The sponsors and Glen Eira City Council and its agents will exercise all reasonable
care of works submitted but will not accept responsibility for any loss or damage while
in transit or in their care. Works will be re-packed in the packaging in which they were
delivered. While all care will be taken with handling, neither the Glen Eira City Council
Gallery, the Silk Cut Foundation, nor its agents will accept liability for loss and/or
damage arising.
COLLECTION OF EXHIBITED WORKS. MONDAY 19 and TUESDAY 20 SEPTEMBER
(between 10am – 5pm).
UNCOLLECTED ENTRIES
Entries not collected by 5.00 pm Friday 23 September 2011 will become the property of
the Silk Cut Foundation to be disposed of at the discretion of the organisers. Glen Eira
City Council Gallery will not be responsible for arranging return bookings with carriers.

PRIVACY STATEMENT
The personal information on this entry form is required to conduct the competition,
acknowledge receipt of material submitted and to announce the prize winners. Failure
to provide this information may mean that the entry cannot be accepted for consideration.

STUDENT SECTION
Entrants must be either under 18 years of age or attending primary or secondary school.
PRIZES
WINNING WORKS:
Up to four acquisitive Silk Cut Student Awards will be presented. The winners will
each receive a Silk Cut Award Trophy and Certificate of recognition and their school will
receive a monetary prize of $2500 for their art department. All winning works will form
part of the ongoing gift to the National Gallery of Australia.
COMMENDED WORKS:
Up to four Commended works will be selected by the judges (non-acquisitive) for inclusion in
the Silk Cut exhibition. These entries will receive publication and a Certificate of recognition.
ENTRIES
Please see conditions of entry for pre-selection (Both Sections). CDs must be clearly
marked with the name of the entrant’s school, the entrant’s name, name of art teacher
responsible for entries, school address and contact details including phone, fax or
email address, and title and dimensions of the work.
Each artist or collaborative group is allowed only one entry.
Each school is allowed a maximum of FIVE individual entries. This is not negotiable.
• All works pre-selected by the judges for exhibition, apart from artist books, can be
framed, unframed or window mounted on firm board for exhibition.
• All works must be accompanied by a completed entry form.
• Class project entries are welcomed. The skilful use of materials and imaginative
content is encouraged. The judging will aim to reflect the range of age groups within
this category.
